Are you struggling with dark spots, scarring and pigmentation? Read this!

As a young woman I understand the challenges associated with hair removal, tight jeans and hormonal fluctuations. Hyperpigmentation has been one of the most excruciating skincare woes as it damaged my self-esteem. As proud as I am of my melanin, it's over production occurs in response to skin trauma, and the simplest injuries can leave long lasting scars.

Often times the first thought is to turn to bleaching products to lighten the skin. While this may be a quick solution it also has various risks due to toxic ingredients. Another solution is exfoliation. Exfoliating the skin can benefit people who are prone to dark spots in several ways:

  1. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells: When you exfoliate your skin, you remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Removing these dead cells can help reveal the healthier, brighter skin underneath and can also help reduce the appearance of dark spots.

  2. Exfoliating can help unclog pores: Clogged pores can lead to the development of dark spots, so exfoliating can help unclog pores and prevent the formation of new dark spots.

  3. Exfoliating can improve skin tone and texture: By removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores, exfoliating can help improve the overall tone and texture of the skin, which can help reduce the appearance of dark spots.

It's important to note that exfoliating can be harsh on the skin and may not be suitable for all skin types. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to dark spots, it's important to be gentle when exfoliating and to use a product that is specifically designed for your skin type. It's also a good idea to speak with a dermatologist or skin care professional to determine the best exfoliation routine for your specific needs.
