Salt Scrubs vs Sugar Scrubs: Which one should you use?

Physical exfoliation is one of the most satisfying ways to maintain smooth and glowing skin from head to toe. Many brands boast the benefits of exfoliation within their products, but which ones are best for you?

If you are trying to decide which scrub will work best for your skin type, read on to find out the pros and cons for both.

Sugar comes in a variety of shapes and sizes making them very versatile for different skin types. Refined cane sugar is great for sensitive skin types whereas unrefined cane sugar is more abrasive. Looking for deeper exfoliation to remove ingrown hair? Unrefined cane sugar scrubs are the best option for you. Unrefined cane sugar also contains the nutrients calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, which feed and replenish your skin.

If you are looking for a face scrub, then refined sugar scrubs are best. Paired with a moisturizing oil, and used on warm & wet skin, refined sugar granules can deliver gentle exfoliation as they dissolve. The challenge, you have to be quick to massage this into the skin before it melts.

Alternatively, salt scrubs are known to detoxify the skin, drawing out impurities. This is great for sore muscles but can sometimes dry out the skin. Less quick to dissolve, salt scrubs can give a much more abrasive and long lasting scrub.

Looking for a scrub that gently exfoliates while focusing on moisturizing? Choose a scrub with fatty oils like coconut and avocado.
